Home · NPE lawsuit tracker

Updated about every two hours · Ten districts

An NPE lawsuit tracker that refreshes before the weekly report does.

Same-day patent complaints, burst counts, and a two-tier NPE flag — candidate from the name, likely only when the name and a same-day wave agree. Operating companies stay off that label.

What “tracker” has to mean on a filing day

Annual NPE reports are useful in March. They are useless at 4 p.m. when nine complaints just hit E.D. Tex. under a licensing LLC you have not seen before.

Litigation Signal pulls new nature-of-suit 830 complaints in ten districts about every two hours, groups the same plaintiff on the same day, and shows counsel when RECAP has it. That is the tracker: the wave, not the year-end chart.

How a wave looks in the product

Illustrative of the pattern — live counts change through the day.

Cogent Insights Licensing Inc. NPE LIKELY · 9
2026-08-20 · E.D. Tex. · same-day multi-defendant wave · Rabicoff
ABC IP, LLC NPE LIKELY
Repeat same-day campaigns · E.D. Tex. · shared plaintiff counsel across captions
Eli Lilly and Company UNCLASSIFIED · burst
High same-day count · denylisted operating company · never auto-tagged NPE

The label rules — on purpose

NPE candidate

Name only: licensing LLC, IP holdings, patent holdings, and similar stems. A flag for review, not a verdict.

NPE likely

Name pattern and a same-day burst at or above threshold. Volume without the name stays “burst,” not NPE.

Known operating companies are denylisted. Shared counsel across different plaintiff LLCs is a second signal in the drawer — not a silent auto-label.

Ten venues, not “all federal courts”

E.D. Texas, D. Delaware, N.D. California, C.D. California, W.D. Texas, N.D. Illinois, D. New Jersey, S.D. New York, N.D. Texas, S.D. Florida.

That is where most U.S. patent complaints still concentrate. We do not pretend to be a 94-district archive. History in the database is continuous since launch and growing; it is not a 20-year NPE encyclopedia.

Watch the plaintiff, the firm, or the wave

  • Alert when a named plaintiff files again.
  • Alert when a plaintiff-side firm appears on a new complaint.
  • Alert on any same-day burst of two or more suits.
  • Alert when a named company is the defendant — the defensive use of the same feed.

Alerts show in the product and go to email. Pair this page with patent litigation alerts if the job is “tell me my client was sued.”

Short answers

Is every high-volume plaintiff an NPE?

No. ANDA campaigns and operating-company enforcement can file in bunches. Those stay unclassified or burst-only unless they fail the denylist and match a name pattern.

Do you track NPEs outside these ten districts?

Not yet. If a campaign files only in a court we do not cover, it will not appear. That limit is stated on purpose.

How is this different from RPX or a yearly NPE report?

Those products are deep history and entity research. This page is the same-day docket radar: who filed how many suits this morning, in which court, with which counsel when we have it.
